FILLING NOTES:
Choose the right rocks for your gabion project. Flat faced, angular rocks or round river rocks are the the recommended for filling gabions measuring 4 - 8 in.
Place the larger stones at the bottom and the sides of the gabion, with flat rocks facing the walls of the basket. Minimize voids using smaller stones in the center of the gabion where they cannot escape from the mesh openings.
The quickest option for large projects is to start fill the gabions using a powered machine such as a front end loader or excavator. After filling a portion, arrange the face rocks by hand for a natural stone look and to minimize voids.

After the gabion has been filled, close the lid and secure it with the helical spirals, tie wire or hog rings
