Reno Mattresses are low profile, mattress shaped wire mesh containers manufactured using heavily galvanized or galvanized and PVC coated steel wire to form a flexible and effective surface protection to defend against erosion and scouring. These mattresses are commonly used for channel linings, slope protection, flood control and erosion control applications. The double twisted flexible wire mesh is designed to accommodate significant deformation without failure.
The base and of the Reno Mattress are made of a single sheet of wire mesh (main panel). Partition panels (diaphragms) are made of the same wire mesh as the main panel and are attached to the base panel dividing the Reno Mattress into 3 foot cells. The lid is formed either by a single sheet or in rolls from the same wire as is in the main panel.
These flexible, permeable, rock-filled and interconnected modular units create a blanket for soil stabilization, providing the civil engineer a unique building material that aesthetically blends that sheared-rock look into its natural environment.
Welded wire mesh means that each point of contact in the grid is actually welded to form a more rigid connection, making this type of gabion indispensable in achieving a more flat, sharp appearance. The added stiffness makes rock filling less cumbersome for better installation times and reduced labor costs.
PRE-ASSEMBLED
gabions are shipped flat (i.e. collapsed) with hinged panels that easily fold into a rectangular basket. Sides are raised and the seams temporarily fastened. The mattress is placed and adjacent edges permanently laced.
QUICKER ASSEMBLY
Once expanded and placed, gabion mattresses are simply and securely interconnected with helical spiral binders or optional hog rings at each vertical junction. Welded wire mesh gabions are assembled, placed and filled considerably faster than woven wire mattresses.
BETTER SHAPE CONTROL
Welded wire mesh provides shape control superior to twisted or woven wire fabric. Diaphragms and preformed stiffeners brace adjacent panels and provide added stiffness for even more shape control.
MANUFACTURED TO ASTM A974 STANDARDS
Gabion mattresses are manufactured to the ASTM A974 standards, which also establishes minimum requirements for preassembly of the mattresses for shipping. The wire mesh used is galvanized or PVC coated for applications where greater durability is desired.
